A visit to Tadoba National Tiger Reserve

Tadoba National Park is Maharashtra’s oldest and largest Tiger sanctuary. This vast and beautiful sanctuary is not only home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, but also possesses an interesting history and mythology.

Taru and the Tiger

According to legends, Taru, a village chief was killed in an unfortunate encounter with a Tiger. A shrine dedicated to him on the banks of the Tadoba Lake is frequently visted by thetribals.

The Gond Kings

The forests were once ruled by the Gond Kings on the side of the Chimur Hills. Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary, created in 1995 was built within the forests to create the tiger reserve.

Present Day

Rightly called ‘The Jewel of Vidharba’, visitors are assured to chance upon wildlife. A tour of the sanctuary can be experienced in an open top gypsy vehicle, in a bus with a trained tour guide or exploredas a trek.The Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation provides accommodation for tourists.

The entire sanctuary is a breath-taking mix of plush forests and green meadows, with deep valleys and a perennial water source. It is the ideal vacation destination for nature lovers.
