The Commercial Hub

Today, Jalgaon has excellent infrastructure. Its proximity to Ajanta Caves, makes it quite an attractive destination for tourists.

The city has a sprawling municipality building, which is 17 storeys high. The Golani complex is one of the largest in the state with over 500 flats and shops. If one is looking to buy something ethnic, the Dana or Phule markets are the best places to find them.

Jalgaon is also known as the Gold City, thanks to the variety of gold jewellery available there.

Though this city suffers extreme weather conditions, bananas are the primary source of business.  Bananas are such an intrinsic part of Jalgaon’s culture that vendors have formed their own guild called Mahabanana, which operates according to the Hammurabi code of conduct.

Besides bananas, this city is also known for its high production of pulses, beans and cotton.

Famous personalities like ex-president Pratibha Patil, singers Abhijeet Sawant and Amit Sana hail from Jalgaon.

Jalgaon is the perfect example of a bustling city that is still close to its roots.
