Shani Shingnapur

At a time when most of us would not even consider leaving our windows open, a small village in India is doing just the opposite. The small village of Shani Shingnapur, just about 35 km from the city of Ahmednagar, has been making headlines for quite some time as the village of open doors – no house in the village has a door, just door frames!

Faith in God

Despite not having a single door in the city, there had been no reported theft until 2010. Villagers here have immense faith in lord Shani that he would protect all of them.

The Legend of Lord Shani

According to folklore, the Lord Shani appeared in the dream of a pious shepherd and told him that a black stone was his incarnation in the village. The shepherd then asked the Lord if he should construct a temple to worship him, to which the Lord replied he preferred to be under the open sky and only to perform a pooja for him every Saturday. In return, he would protect the village of all thieves and dacoits. To this day, this faith is what keeps the village unlocked.

It is enchanting to see how pious and devoted the villagers of Shani Shingnapur are. Perhaps, modern society too could take a leaf out of their crime-free lifestyle!
