Bibi ka Maqbara

This Deccani Taj (Taj of the Deccan) is known as the historic wonder of Aurangabad because of its resemblance to one of the seven wonders of the world- the Taj Mahal at Agra. It was built within a span of ten years from 1651- 1661 A.D.  by Prince Azam Shah. Known as the little wonder, the Taj of Deccan is believed to have been built by Ata-ullah, who is none other than the son of Ustad Ahmad Lahauri, chief engineer of the original Taj. The only difference isthat while Shahjahan had built the Taj for hisbeloved wife, this prince had Bibi ka Maqbara built for his mother, Rabia- ul- Daurani, who was none other than the wife of the great Mughal ruler Aurangazeb. The Maqraba is a wonder that is built entirely using the marbles from Jaipur and needless to say many artisans worked on the marvel for many days together.

Presently, this historic site in Aurangabad is taken care by the Archeological Survey of India. It is a beautiful experience to visit this seventeenth century palace situated in the centre of a garden (charbagh) though the mosque found in the premises was a later construction under the leadership of the Nizam of Hyderabad.
